There were three types of draft dodgers during the Vietnam War. There were those who refused to serve based on their moral convictions. There were those who pretended they had moral convictions because they were too afraid of the uncertainties of the needs of the service. There were those who fraudulent pretended they had medical or psychological issues because they were too afraid or selfish to serve. And then there were those who voluntarily enlisted in order to take advantage of career path guarantees not offered to the draftees.

I find what he said about TWD to be fascinating, due to the Image Comics pilot originally taking place in the same universe as Night Of The Living Dead. The famous news report from the movie is featured in the pilot, as Rick and Carol (soon to be Lori) are watching the report on their TV. Now that I think about it, Mercer might have gotten his name from Mercer County that was mentioned in the report. It's funny that Romero was interested in working on the series because Day Of The Dead is Robert Kirkman's favorite of Romero's zombie movies.
